When the Berlin Wall fell in 1989, abandoned spaces became playgrounds for East and West Berliners united by Detroit techno and Chicago house. The city’s first illegal raves and clubs—like Ufo and Tresor—set the stage for a cultural revolution.

1990s: Techno Takes Over

Berlin’s Love Parade exploded from a small demonstration to a world-famous festival, with millions dancing through the streets. Clubs like E-Werk, WMF, and Tresor defined the raw, industrial Berlin sound. The city’s “anything goes” attitude and marathon parties attracted ravers from across the globe.
